A Fresh Take on Apologetics

Hey Folks,

Welcome to my new blog. My name is Scott Burson and I teach philosophy and theology at Indiana Wesleyan University, where my primary area of expertise is Christian apologetics. I have written two books on apologetics and am currently writing a third.

My most recent book is entitled, Brian McLaren in Focus: A New Kind of Apologetics (Abilene Christian University Press, 2016).  I spent the last two days speaking about McLaren at Abilene Christian. Yesterday, I addressed McLaren's role in the development of the Emergent Church Movement.  Today, I spoke about what evangelicals can learn from McLaren a decade after Time magazine selected him as one of the most influential evangelicals in America.

In subsequent blogs, I will be offering seven lessons that I believe contemporary evangelicals can learn from McLaren. I also will be discussing the importance of employing not only rational intelligence when engaging in apologetic conversations, but also moral, emotional and social intelligence.

One final note for now. This post coincides with the release of Brian McLaren's new book, The Great Spiritual Migration. In the coming weeks, I will be offering a review. For now, I would encourage you to take a look at this new monograph. Whether you are a fan, critic or new to Brian McLaren, I'd encourage you to explore this new book.
